Services

Insurance Claims
Whether you have a comprehensive/hull & mashinery or third-party liability claim, I will be at your side with competence and expertise!

Purchase Surveys
Are you looking for a suitable boat or have you already found one and now need an objective and trained eye to support your purchase decision? I will be happy to support you!

Commissioning
Have you just bought a new boat from a shipyard or dealer? Then you should have the boat inspected by a neutral person to draw up a list of flaws and defects before or at the time of handover for any warranty claims. This can save you time, money and trouble.

Owner's representative
Do you want to have a boat built or are you planning a major refit of your motor or sailing yacht? I will be happy to advise you, liaise between the shipyard and the various trades, and check the work, costs and schedule.

valuation survey
Do you want to have your boat re-insured, adjust the sum insured or have you been asked by your insurance company for a new valuation? I would be happy to make you an offer for the valuation of your boat.

NDT Ultrasonic measurements
Many metal hulls rust through from the inside to the outside without being recognised. By measuring the steel thickness of the hull using ultrasound, weak points in the material can be detected without having to remove the underwater coating or paintwork.

Salvage
After storms, accidents, driving errors or even sabotage, ships are often no longer where they were originally left. Whether under water, on land, on shoals or even on the road, a well-organised salvage operation can secure the values found and make it easier to deal with the authorities and insurance companies.

wreck search
Together with my partners, it is possible to search for, find, document and recover wrecks, people and other objects down to a depth of 250 metres. We have a sidescan and a multibeam sonar as well as a so-called ROV (remotely operated underwater vehicle) at our disposal for this purpose.
I also prepare boat expertises for insurance companies, boat dealers and shipyards as well as expertises for court proceedings
Gregor Franke...
…was born and raised on Lake Starnberg and realised early on that his passion was sailing. After graduating from high school, he was drawn to the sea, where he completed his degree in naval architecture, specialising in yachts, at the Kiel University of Applied Sciences in 2007. After several months in Australia, New Zealand and England, where he was able to deepen his practical knowledge in the professional yacht industry, he founded ‘GREGOR FRANKE MARINE CONSULTING’ in 2009, an independent consultancy and surveyor’s office for yachts and pleasure craft. Gregor Franke is an ambitious sailor and has gained a lot of regatta experience worldwide, including in legendary races such as the Rolex Fastnet Race, the HSH Nordbank Blue Race and the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Regatta. He enjoys being above and below the water with his MCA/YA/RYA Yachtmaster and his Advanced Open Water Diver. He has lived and worked on Lake Ammersee since 2017.
GREGOR FRANKE MARINE CONSULTING is a member of the German Boat and Shipbuilders Association, the Association of Recreational Craft and Shipbuilding Experts, the Federal Association of the Water Sports Industry and the Young Professionals in Yachting Germany. Surveyor appointed by the German Sailing Association for the Dragon class.

Christian Müller...
…has been specialising in searching for people and objects in the water since 2001. He works for the police, the public prosecutor’s office and relatives. True to his motto ‘If it’s there, I can find it’, he has already located and recovered a missing aeroplane, ships, people and objects, including wedding rings. He is characterised by his tenacity, which means he never gives up even after several years of searching.
Specialising in missing persons in the water, he has been able to solve cases even after 27 years. The involvement of those affected during the searches is very important to him and so he continues to support them as a non-medical practitioner for psychotherapy in his own practice before, during and after a find if necessary.
In addition to providing training for the police and all water rescue organisations in the field of sidescan sonar operations, he prefers to be out on the water searching and finding.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank you most sincerely for your comprehensive expert opinion. I was very impressed by your fair treatment, your sympathetic demeanour and your confident way of working. Apart from your expertise, which in my view cannot be surpassed, it was a real pleasure to experience how you systematically approached the matter.’

Roman K. - Bavaria 300
‘Mr Franke convinced me right from the first meeting with his detailed discussion of the approach to buying a boat. What rounded off the project for me was both his outstanding expertise and his willingness to deal with the wishes of the future boat owner.’
Dominik P. - Bavaria Ocean
‘Anyone who is seriously interested in a boat (regardless of the type) should definitely contact Gregor. With his in-depth expertise and knowledge of the idiosyncrasies of various boat types, Gregor is a valuable help when buying a boat. He will point out any shortcomings in the construction, no matter how small. Thanks to his excellent (worldwide) network, Gregor Franke Marine Consulting is the best point of contact for potential buyers.’
Christian F. - Bavaria 43 HT
‘We got to know Mr Franke in spring 2018. Mr Franke advised us on the purchase of our used motorboat (Bavaria 43 HT, built in 2012). In particular, Mr Franke carried out the technical boat appraisal of our Bavaria. This included a comprehensive technical report and an on-site inspection of the boat, including test drives. We were more than satisfied with Mr Franke's work. Mr Franke has a high level of technical know-how with many years of experience - also due to his sound training in the form of a shipbuilding degree. Furthermore, Mr Franke has a large network of colleagues throughout Europe, from institutes for oil analysis to the relevant specialist lawyers for international shipping law, etc. Another positive aspect is Mr Franke's calm and very pleasant manner.’
Marcus L. - Reinke 10S
‘After studying and comparing yacht offers for some time, we shortlisted a Reinke 10S made of steel, which had been standing in a shed for a long time and at first glance did not look quite as fresh as the photos of her had previously given us. At a second viewing appointment, we therefore called in Mr Franke, who approached the yacht with a great deal of expertise and spent a whole day examining the ship in detail and explaining its weak points and strengths to us, so that we got a realistic picture of the ship and reached an agreement with the seller that same evening. Mr Franke's advice was extremely valuable!’

Karl H. - Solaris 55
‘Unless you're a real freak yourself and have a lot of time on your hands, the acceptance and commissioning of a boat is definitely an occasion to call in a specialist. Gregor Franke made several visits to the boatyard and finally ensured during the commissioning itself that all the yacht's features were in order and that there were no functional or qualitative defects. That is money well spent. With Gregor, I learnt a lot about the boat that goes beyond the usual briefing from the boatyard. He was also an excellent advisor when it came to equipping the boat. His commitment and availability are exceptional. Throughout the season I kept contacting him for advice and he was always helpful, available and knowledgeable. Gregor's mobile number is my ‘additional insurance’ in the event of a breakdown. We will definitely continue to work together.’

Petra & Thomas- Hallberg Rassy 42E
‘We loved sailing and at some point we decided to go travelling with our to go travelling with our own boat. As complete newbees on the boat market boat market, we were looking for help with boat searches, purchases and refits and found a congenial partner in DI Gregor Franke. At a very fair price, he offers an almost unbelievable service (purchase advice, purchase inspection, refit advice) that you rarely find these days, rarely found these days. You also realise that he really knows what he's talking about what he is talking about and is always available for reliable information. available for reliable information. Your commitment is truly exceptional, thank you Gregor!’

Dipl.-Ing. Ulrich Höhberger - Hanseat 37S
‘In autumn 2021, we started retreading the 32-year-old rig of our SY, a ‘Hanseat 37S’ moored in the Italian North Adriatic. The initially engaged local rigger turned out to be a failure. Then we became aware of Mr Dipl.-Ing. Gregor Franke on the Internet. Mr Franke helped us in an exceptionally committed manner to clarify all questions regarding the use of materials, stability, necessary dimensioning and much more, and advised us in a very professional and solution-orientated manner. We worked together on the basis of photographs and drawings via telephone calls and video conferences and met on site, in particular to discuss the complex masthead, which required a thorough restoration in a specialised company, in great detail. We gained network contacts to specialised companies and were also able to bring in our alternative approaches - because I am not unfamiliar with the subject. This enabled us to find mutually acceptable solutions. We were ready in time for the start of the season. You definitely shouldn't worry about fees, some rigger practitioners end up being more expensive than an academic expert who can also provide practical guidance, as we can confirm. We will be happy to continue working with Mr Franke in the future. ’
Osmosis?
Yacht owners have a great fear of osmosis and even the smallest bubbles on the hull are often mistaken for the ‘boat dent plague’. But even the unprofessional use of a moisture analyser can unsettle an owner and boat buyer.
